Stacte, Storax, Styrax (Rare)

Scientific Name: Liquidambar orientalis

Country of Origin: Turkey

Distillation Method:  Solvent Extraction

Plant Part: Crude Gum

Perfume Note: Base

Storax - Stacte is famous as a ingredient in the Holy incense stated in Exodus 30:34. As a perfume ingredient it is a base or fixative with sweet-balsamic undertones. Storax-Stacte (Liquidamber orientalis oil that is steam distilled from the resin is rare as is this solvent extracted version. It is different than Benzoin absolute also known as styrax.  We feel the odor profile of this Liquidambar orientalis is much nicer than Liquidambar styraciflua (American).

Storax is deciduous tree up to 49 feet high, with a purplish grey bark and white flowers. The storax is a pathological secretion produced by pounding the bark. It hardens for form a semi-solid mass with a sweet balsamic aroma.

This oil is a soft solid at room temperature and will need to be heated in a water bath to make it workable.  It is difficult to work with.

We only have a small amount of this oil available.
